Mike Fan is an experienced and diverse music educator based in Montréal, Québec. Mike teaches piano, voice, drama, and music theory. Mike also tutors science, math, and languages.

Mike speaks fluent English, Mandarin Chinese, French with proficiency in Italian, German, and Spanish. Online and select Ontario lessons are also available.

Mike teaches piano, voice, flute, euphonium, drama, music theory (Rudiments, Harmony, History, Analysis), and speech arts theory (History & Literature and Technical Theory). Mike accompanies his own voice students and those of other instruments and teachers for exams, competitions, and auditions.

Mike holds two Honours Bachelor’s degrees in both Biomedical Science with Distinction (BScH, Guelph) and Voice Performance with High Distinction and Double Minors in Italian and German Studies (HBMus, Laurier). Mike also holds two ARCT diplomas from the Royal Conservatory in both Voice and Piano Performance. Mike is currently completing a Masters in Music in Voice and Opera Performance from the Schulich School of Music under the tutelage of dramatic tenor John Mac Master, fully funded with McGill’s Graduate Excellence and Shapiro Opera Fellowships. Mike is also completing a third ARCT diploma in Speech Arts & Drama from the Royal Conservatory of Music. As a performer, Mike has trained in Italy and performed in Canada, Australia, and the United States.

Mike fosters good posture and note-reading for vocalists, pianists, and instrumentalists that will provide them the tools to succeed in music both as a vocation and profession. Mike’s approach to teaching singing and acting in particular includes developing the fundamentals of good vocal technique such as breath control, resonance, and registration, with the aim to prepare students to perform successfully across many genres and styles. Mike has taught music both privately and for the Kratovic School of Music, Octave Music Centre, and Yamaha Children's Music Academy. Mike is proud to be listed in the RCM's National Teacher Directory and was the 2018-2019 President of SNATS (Students for the National Association of Teachers of Singing) at WLU.
