MIKE FAN is an award-winning Chinese-Canadian operatic lyric baritone, actor, and pianist in demand as an unusually versatile performer and teacher of music, science, math, and languages. Mike’s recent performances include an Australian concert tour with the Canadian Ambassador Choir, Schlémil in Offenbach's Tales of Hoffmann, and Shakespeare’s "A Midsummer Night's Dream". Upcoming 2017 performances include Bizet's Carmen (Halifax) and Sheridan's "School for Scandal" (Waterloo).

Mike regularly sings opera, oratorio, choral music, and song in eight languages spanning five centuries, including frequent world premieres. Mike’s warm, high baritone has won the RCM Gold Medal, Kiwanis scholarships, and 1st place at the 2014 NATS Competition. Performances include appearances with the Guelph Symphony Orchestra, Vera Causa Opera, Eden Mills Arts Festival, Society for the Archaeology of Ancient Music, Guelph Chinese Canadian Culture Association, and masterclasses with Wendy Nielsen, Kristine Dandavino, Leslie Fagan, and other renowned singers. Mike created and hosted Opera@Guelph from 2013-2015, a monthly opera series at the University of Guelph which presented 11 operas in five languages.

At the piano, Mike performs solo repertoire spanning Baroque to jazz and collaborates in chamber music with strings, choirs, woodwinds, and brass. Performances include chamber music with the Arthur Leblanc Quartet at the Kincardine Summer Music Festival, accompanying for Kiwanis Music Festivals and the Ontario Music Festivals Association, music therapy at Royal on Gordon, Elliott Community, and Wellington Terrace, and masterclasses with James Anagnoson, Dr. Thomas Green, and other renowned pedagogues.

Mike’s spoken theatre performances include Shakespeare’s Malvolio and Mercutio as well as roles in French and German language theatre. Mike speaks fluent English, Mandarin Chinese, French, and has growing proficiency in Italian and German. Mike teaches privately in Waterloo, Guelph, and online. Mike has previously taught for the Octave Music Centre, Yamaha Children's Music Academy, and JamSchool. Mike is proud to be listed in the RCM's National Teacher Directory and is a member of SNATS.

Mike holds ARCT degrees in both Voice and Piano Performance (Royal Conservatory) and an Honours Bachelor’s in Biomedical Science with Distinction (Guelph). Mike continues studies in classical voice at Sir Wilfrid Laurier University with Marianne Bindig.
