MIKE FAN | 范祖铭

Tenor

            Tenor Mike Fan | 范祖铭 (they) whose "dramatic side is remarkable” (Barcza Blog) has performed in 11 languages “sung extremely well and acted even better” (Opera Ramblings) across North America, Europe, Australia, and the UK. 

            Recent performances include the Canadian Opera Company’s new, season-opening production of Beethoven’s Fidelio; the world première of Chan’s Dragon’s Tale with Tapestry Opera co-produced with the Harbourfront Centre, Luminato Festival, and Soundstreams; and their Scottish début at Edinburgh Festival Fringe’s Spotlight Canada at the invitation of the High Commission of Canada in the UK. Awards include the Royal Conservatory of Music’s Gold Medal, Jeunes Ambassadeurs Lyriques’ Prix Poulenc, and multiple grants from the Canada Council for the Arts / Counseil des arts du Canada. Mike holds a Masters in Opera & Voice Performance on full scholarship as a SSHRC scholar (McGill University) and trained as a young artist at Pacific Opera Victoria, Rossini Opera Festival (Italy), and Tampere Conservatoire (Finland). A passionately committed QTBIPOC+ multi-disciplinary artist, Mike is founding Artistic Director of Opéra Queens. 

            Upcoming, Mike is thrilled to compete in the Gerda Lissner Foundation Competition and returns to Toronto City Opera as Remendado (Bizet’s Carmen) and Elder Gleaton (Floyd’s Susannah) in addition to singing Bellini’s Tebaldo (I Capuleti e i Montecchi) and covering scenes as Verdi’s Riccardo (Un ballo in maschera) and Bellini’s Pollione (Norma) in their OpéraFest début at Jeanne Lamon Hall.
